Words from St John Vianney

1. We spend some time to focus our minds by taking a familiar prayer and saying it very slowly. So we take seven minutes to pray the Our Father and to enter the meaning of the words, we share them with Jesus.

These are expressions of St John Vianney. We take them one at a time and spend three of four minutes reflecting on each:-

a. John Vianney said, “Oh, how great is the priest! If he realized what he is, he would die. God obeys the priest. With a few words the Lord sends us from Heaven his Son to be contained within a small host”.

b. Another word of John Vianney; “ Without the priest we would not have the Lord. Who put Him there in that Tabernacle? The priest. Who welcomed your soul at the beginning of your life? The priest. Who feeds your soul and gives it strength for its journey? The priest. Who will prepare you to appear before God, begging forgiveness one last time in the blood of Jesus Christ? And if this Christian soul die as a result of sin, who will raise it up, who will restore it’s peace and calm? The priest. After God the priest is everything….only in Heaven will we fully realize what he is”.

2. What use would a house be filled with gold where there is no one to open the door? The priest holds the key to the treasures of Heaven; it is he who opens the door; he is the steward of the good Lord; the administrator of his goods. Leave a parish for twenty years without a priest, and they will end by worshiping anything.
The priest is not a priest for himself, he is a priest for you.

John Vianney loved to kneel before Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament. “One need not say much to pray well. We know that Jesus is there in the tabernacle; let us open our hearts to him, let us rejoice in His Sacred presence. That is the best prayer.”
Come to communion, my brothers and sisters, come to Jesus. Come to live from Him in order to live with Him. Of course, you not worthy of Him but you need Him.

3 Let us now reflect on moments of faith in our Ministry.

People of faith have touched our lives. Let us share those encounters again in the presence of Jesus before us. Let us turn our memories into prayers sharing with Jesus. Spend time recognizing Jesus in people you have met.

4 Night prayer and Benediction.
